Bologna Day 2

Day 2 - Having slept for 12 hours, we decided to get out and explore the city.  We are conveniently located on Via Marconi which has several busses running by and we are within walking distance to the Piazza Maggiore, where we decided to begin our journey for day 2 (Wednesday).  We checked out the info center to get basic info, went up the scaffolding of Basilica di San Petronio  as they were restoring the facade (beautiful relief restoration);AllanonScaffoldingCropped.jpg

and as a plus, one of the best views of the old city from the top of the scaffolding.  Many pictures were taken.

From there went to the Cathedral di San Pietro to see the recommended high alter -- so magnificent. Had first tagliatelle Bolognese for lunch at an outside cafe -- excellent.

Oops! It was so good, I forgot to take a picture BEFORE I ate it!

Have at least 5 more samplings of spaghetti Bolognese to try before we leave in ordeer to make a scientific comparison (ha).  Side tracked to a gelato shop where we sampled double chocolate (Allan), hazelnut (Lynn) and creme caramel (me).

Walked back later in the day through the fruit/vegetable market and bought a wood-fired roasted chicken seasoned with rosemary.  Also bought fire-grilled polenta.  Stopped at the local market to fill out Wednesday evening's menu by picking up fresh salad greens and vino.  Excellent supper. -- Donna
